To use the WikiBench you will need four elements:
- The WikiBench benchmark code
- The MediaWiki application
- A Wikipedia database dump [January 2008]
- A Wikipedia request trace [September 2007 – January 2008]
The general idea is simple:
- Install MediaWiki on your favorite application server and database server
- Populate the database with the Wikipedia dump
- Pre-process the request trace with TraceBench to get the desired workload
- Replay the workload onto your Wikipedia installation using WikiBench
- Enjoy your performance measurements…
